producer/engineer/editor/mixer
I was in my early 20’s when I quit college and a good paying printing job for an internship at a small recording studio just north of Chicago. I was in the control room every waking hour, trying to learn about producing good recordings, and trying to build relationships with musicians and other engineers. I wasn't/ain’t a talented musician, but with the guidance of mentors and friends, I knew I could help bring out the talents in others. And so I have for almost 25 years.
I do love working in a formal studio environment, with a tape machine and vintage British console, loads of outboard gear, and a busy patch bay. But to keep up with tech and shrinking budgets I had to learn how to do great mixes inside a laptop. And now instead of renting a studio many projects involve some location sessions in alternative spaces like churches, practice spaces, houses, etc. I have a modest editing/mixing suite in my cottage in Topanga, for vocal sessions and post-production, and a mobile Pro Tools rig and field recorders for location sessions.
i need to update this but here is a long demo reel file with lots of old clients on it….
